The self-proclaimed Dinosaurs, team Maple 4 is helping the Vinton Parks and Recreation Department restore many of its facilities before the summer boom of usage.

After graduating high school, she applied for AmeriCorps NCCC.

Liz Fischer(Mrs. Kalous)- sold bracelets made by children in Afganistan children to give money back to them.  Ashley Strong- (Mr. Mc GREw) During drivers ed she volunteered multiple times to drive with a student who had lost their driving partner.  Autumn Hines (Ms. Rodriguez)  Cleaned up after class without being asked.

AmeriCorps NCCC Team Goes Beyond Their Mission to Help At Risk Youth

The team is assigned to work at Crossroads for Youth, a non-profit organization that has programs designed to help at risk youth make positive strides in their lives and beat the odds that are stacked against them.

NCCC Leaving Their Mark in Wapello

By: Emily and Jordan AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) members from Oak 6 have been helping the Louisa County Conservation Board in Wapello, IA with a variety of different services until May 13. Some of the services benefit the county’s public school by educating the kids in environmental education such as Water Safety, Toad & Frogs and Bird Adaptations.

Michael Armstrong   Name: Michael Armstrong Hometown: Elizabeth City, NC NCCC Team: Cedar 6   Michael graduated from Northeastern High School in 2009 and graduated from Ashworth College with his HVAC certificate.  He considers himself to be skilled in various tasks like plumbing, painting, carpentry, electrical, brick masonry and ground maintenance.

Covenant Medical Center Auxiliary Announces Scholarship Winners

  Scholarships to be awarded to five area students   The Covenant Medical Center Auxiliary has announced the recipients of their 2011-2012 scholarship program. Recognition will be given at the Auxiliary’s Annual Luncheon on Friday, May 6, and the scholarship will be paid directly to the institution where the students will be enrolled full-time this fall.

Ten $500 Scholarships Awarded 2011 Graduating Seniors

Connor Roth   For the past five years East-Central Iowa Rural Electric Cooperative has awarded over 75, $500 and $1,000 scholarships to winning students from 16 area high schools who are going into various fields of study. Those seniors who want to work in the electric utility industry as a line worker and are accepted in the one- or two-year Powerline Tech Program at Northwest Iowa Community College, ECI awards up to two (2) $1,000 scholarships each year.
